 I adored Freddie Mercury and Queen had a hit with Radio Ga Ga. That's why I love the name. Freddie was unique, one of the biggest personalities in pop music. He was not only a singer but also a fantastic performer, a man of theatre and someone who constantly transformed himself. In short, a genius. It's all about him and David Bowie. 

Freddie Mercury was and remains my biggest influence. The combination of his sarcastic approach to writing lyrics and his 'I don't give a fuck' attitude really inspired my music.

If I hadn't had Freddie Mercury's lyrics to hold on to as a kid I don't know where I would be. It taught me about all forms of music... it would open my mind. I never really had a bigger teacher in my whole life.

Of all the more theatrical performers, Freddie took it further than the rest. He took it over the edge. And of course I always admire a man who wears tights!

I used to take a nap in the van and listen to Queen. Over and over again and drain the battery on the van. Then we'd be stuck. That happened a few times. We'd be stuck with a dead battery because I'd listened to Queen too much.

The music industry is all about art versus product. What's left to do, but implode? Please, at some point in the day, play Bohemian Rhapsody to the kids. Make them listen. Show them the possibilities.

For me he represents an era when people were less afraid of living life to the full. This was in the Seventies when rock's extravagances went beserk. Perhaps we're not living in that time any more. There's a glorious rebelliousness about it, of freedom attached to it, that represents that whole spirit of rock 'n' roll.

'Queen II' it's so over the top, so many vocal and guitar over dubs – total Queen overload. I loved it. I loved the cool, weird ambiguous songs about Freddie's sexuality and the way it shifts from heavy to beautiful ballads.

There's so few people behind the glamour who really make it as true performers. It's a very strange thoroughbred condition to be a successful musician and still be able to project it with confidence. Freddie had that, and there's not many people who have had it.

Freddie Mercury was such a big personality. Queen had records out throughout my whole life and it's a part of us that everyone's lost.

Freddie was one of the élite few who could really set a stadium straight. Along with millions of fans throughout the world, I will miss his exceptional performance and brilliant voice.

Freddie certainly influenced my use of the one-piece outfit I used for about three years in the Seventies until I decided it was time either to stop wearing it or lose weight.

The name [Queen] fits the band and it fits Freddie to a tee.

Freddie is a real one off and at that time nobody looked like him, sang like him with the harmonies and everything.

I've been chasing the dream and I owe that to you.

He brought operatic grandeur back to rock 'n' roll and that encouraged us to get symphonic and pretentious on our own.

Definetely one of the greatest performers that ever lived. His ability to deliver a vocal was second to none.
